"The story of Stichting (Foundation) Maldoror began in 1987, as a result of a collaboration between Erik Lindner, Ruud Vermeer and myself.
Around 1990 Stacz Wilhelm and Lieselot Peterse started Maldoror Galerie, a sub-division of the foundation, at location Voortvaren, a former printing factory in the centre of The Hague.
In 1993 they invited artists Max Kuiper and Patty Struik to exhibit their works.
My band since 1984, Salò Mentale, was asked to do a noise performance. Which we did. I invited two bandmembers, Karlo and Istvan, to bring along an instrument. Karlo brought a Yamaha synthesizer, Istvan a Korg. We all had tremendous hangovers that day. Karlo would be sitting in one corner, Istvan in another, and I was close to the entrance with a tape deck and a record player. The tape deck was playing a recording of Willem Steeper reading from The Songs of Maldoror' (in Dutch). At the same time I would do some record scratching with a children's record from my youth, called 'Let's March Along'.
It was rather LOUD.
The performance lasted about an hour. I think everybody was rather pleased when we finally stopped."
