These sound works are part of z\w\a\r\t magazine nr. 25 - 'Schemeroorlog'.

'Schemeroorlog' is the Dutch term for 'Twilight War'.

Although the title is derived from the period with that name during World War II, the term is open to many interpretations.

Les Horribles Travailleurs acknowledges the element of violence present in nature, human nature, time and language and, for a series of moments, wants to become that element - without judgement or glorification - and without reference to specific historical or personal circumstances.
As always, Les Horribles Travailleurs aims to create (sound) languages that are as close to the subject as possible - and wants to resolve (the violence of) the distance between subject and language.

The basis for this release is an ongoing - long term project – a series of projects - on the subject of violence \ war.
A project in many forms, including a series of so called artist books and\or scrap books with (fragments of) found images and collages of found images. Also the transformation - with many techniques (paint, fluids, ink, fire) - of existing books on war. Also projects in\with buildings that have, in some form, a (historical) relation with WW II, the army or violence.

The titles of the sound works are all constructed from collages of words found in books on war.

z\w\a\r\t magazine nr. 25 was released on 19 january 2023 in Rotterdam in the form of a sound performance by Les Horribles Travailleurs.

Also performing that evening where O Ratel Ratel, Geseling and Mystic Dwarf.

Also, the ‘Schemeroorlog’ exhibition, that consisted of arrangements of materials and images (collages, found and reworked images) on (semi) transparent sheets on 13 windows, was part of that release.

The exhibition took place on 19 + 20 january 2023, in Cult Crêche, Giesssenweg 57, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
